Grow Your Own – Rhubarb

A quirky vegetable or is it a fruit? Either way, if you give it an inch it’ll take a mile so it needs space or a large pot in an open sunny, well-drained spot. It can be grown from seed or from dormant crowns between Autumn and Spring, to be enjoyed from Spring through Summer. Plant near brassicas like cabbage, broccoli, kale and cauliflower to repel many insects and pests with its smell. Its titilating tartness and luscious candy pink colour features in our Barbarilla Soda which looks even more stunning when garnished with a simple sugar-dipped stem or a rhubarb ribbon peeled off the stem with a veg peeler and twirled around the inside of the glass.
